Moves Like Jagger a Great Hit

I have been out of the loop on music for the past bit. I have really missed diving deep to find cool new music. I decided this was a great week to get back into the swing of things and hopefully I can keep a weekly post up for the next little bit.
Enough chat...lets get into my picks for this week.

Alternative
Besides this being a very odd music video I like the interesting sound of the lead singers voice. It is scratchy and yet sort of annoying sounding but I like it.
Grouplove- Colours

Country
This isn't the typical country song that I like but I was drawn to it for some reason. I think it is because it takes me back to the way pure country sounds with a twangy voice and a lap steel guitar/slide guitar.
Ashton Shepherd- Where Country Grows

Hot/Mod/AC
My favorite song of the week. I have always liked Adam Levine's style and this song confirms that I still dig his music. It is a catchy song and I imagine we will hear it played again...and again...and again..and you get my point.
Maroon 5- Moves like Jagger ft. Christina Aguliera

Rock
This song has a great intro. I like how this song because it shows a softer side of Papa Roach.
Papa Roach- No Matter What

Top 40/M
One of if not the best voice to come out of a reality music competition. If they can find a way to truly utilize his voice with great catchy songs then he will be able to warm the crazy storm that the music industry is. This song is a good start but I do prefer his remake of Coldplay's song Fix You.
Javier Colon- Stitch by Stitch

Top 40/R
I like this song but it isn't amazing. This song will obviously catch fire because it has J Bieber in it and just his name alone is enough to make anything sell. I do like the song however but I don't think it is either of their best songs.
Chris Brown- Next To You (f. Justin Bieber)

Triple A
This was the hardest genre for me this week. There was a lot of songs that I liked and it was hard to narrow it down to one song. I first narrowed it down to three and thos three are:
Jesse Harris- The Secret Sun
Colbie Caillat- Brighter Than The Sun
Zee Avi- The Book Of Morris Johnson
After much thinking I had to give this weeks Tripla A winner to Jesse Harris and only because has accomplished a lot and is starting to be a great meantor to others in the triple a genre.
Jesse Harris- The Secret Sun

Good Mashup

Here is a good mashup from one of my favorite bands of today, Lady Antebellum. This was performed to help those recently affected by devastating storms. They mashed up "Three Little Birds," their hit song "I Run To You," and "One Love."

Watch out for Snoop Dogg and T-Pain

Alternative
It was a toss up this week for my alternative pick. I was very close to choosing Eddie Vedder's new song Longing to Belong but I couldn't get past the fun old school game sounds of White Sky by Vampire Weekend. It was like a mixture of owl city and postal service.
Vampire Weekend- White Sky

Country
I really love Alabama and when I heard them in a song with Brad Paisley I thought for sure they would be my pick but I just couldn't pick Old Alabama by Brad Paisley after I heard the deep beats and rock style song from Luke Bryan. It makes me wanna dance and "shake it".
Luke Bryan- Country Girl (Shake It For Me)

Hot/Mod/AC
Eve Marie had a winning chance this week with the song Waiting For You until I saw the music video. I couldn't get past the weird faces and head tilts. It isn't just the video that lost it. The fact that Yellowcard's song is much catchier and fun to listen to sealed the deal.
Yellowcard- Hang You Up

Rock
No easy win out of the this Genre. I think ultimately it came down to me liking the sound of My Chemical Romance better than The Gaslight Anthem (song- bring it on). Another catchy and soon to be popular song by My Chemical Romance
My Chemical Romance- Bulletproof Heart

Top 40/M
Clearly my top choice this week was Owl City. After going through many songs I couldn't find any that was close to competing for this weeks winner.
Owl City- Alligator Sky

Top 40/R
One of my favorite songs for this week because it makes me get "giggy wid it". This is a fun song and great beat. Snoop and T-Pain work really well in this song. I love it!!
Snoop Dogg- Boom (f. T-Pain)

Triple A
I was quite dissapointed with the new music out for Triple A. There are usually a few songs I love out of this genre but I just couldn't find anything. I stumbled upon Matt Nathanson and knew this was the EASY winner.
Matt Nathanson- Faster

Good Life Will Reach into the Top 5

My favorite for this week has to be One Republic's Good Life. It is much like their other hit songs but I love the progression of the song. It isn't the same song over and over again. Overall a great and catchy song and I really see this song being a number one or peaking into the top 5 in the near future.

Alternative
Biffy Clyro- Many Of Horror

Country
Eric Church- Homeboy

Hot/Mod/AC
This song is dedicated to my wife. I love you and I am so happy that you and I decided to hook up nine years ago. We have gone through our ups and downs but here we are today married and loving life. I love you the most and forever babe!
Train- Marry me

Rock
Saving Abel- Miss America

Covers Are Awesome

I was thinking of what to do this week for my post and I ended up falling upon billboard.com's weekly mashup of songs. After watching many of the mashups I decided they are more covers than they are mashups. The following are my favorite ones...

Hey Monday cover Jason Derulo's "In My Head". She has a great voice and I see these people getting big in the near future.

This 13 Year old from Australia has great voice. Cody Simpson covers Ben Harper's "Steal My Kisses,"

Such a great raspy sound to his voice. David Gray covers "Long Black Veil," by Johnny Cash.

This is a faux-plaintive acoustic-guitar-and-tambourine take on Outkast's "Roses" by The Maine. I really like how different this one is compared to the original.

Never thought I would hear "Single Ladies" as a slowed down jazzy song. Love the basslines!!! Sara Bareilles covers Beyoncé's "Single Ladies".

The local band from Provo, Utah does great doo wop version of Justin Bieber's "Baby" while mixing in a few other great songs.

A look back to music in 2010 post #1

I really enjoyed the last year in music. 2010 was a year that was influenced and driven by pop. The events that changed and shaped music this year were plentiful and the following are some of the major events and memories of 2010 music:

Glee shines as they surpass the Beatles to have the most appearances on the hot 100 by a non-solo act.

Michael Lives On through his music and I love it!

Nashville is hit with a major flood.

Only one rock band will hit the hot 100 top 10, Train, with "Hey, Soul Sister."

Lady gaga has a monster year

Bieber Takeover. Need I say more except that even 3 year olds cry over him.

Taylor Swift sells 1,047,000 copies in one week with the CD "Speak Now". It is the only CD to sell one million in 2010. The last CD to sell at least a million was in 2008 by Lil Wayne, "Tha Carter III". I must also say that the record is still held by Nsync's, "No Strings Attached" with 2,416,000 sold.

Kesha is for real and not fading.

Rihanna stays Hot!

Eminem's "Recovery" was the most sold album of the year.
Ten Grammy nominations and 3.42 million albums sold don't lie -- Eminem owned 2010.
